Sensory Exploration and Play
Sensory exploration and play is a great tool for creating and developing interaction and communication opportunities. It also has many other benefits, including supporting Physical Development, through both gross and fine motor skill movements.
For some, participating in sensory play and exploration will also support emotional regulation. Pupils at JFK across all our sites often enjoy participating in sensory play and exploration and find these activities highly engaging.
The following guide below has been created by JFK teachers to support ideas for creating these sessions at home.
JFK staff have also filmed a series of short clips, demonstrating how to interact when playing with a range of sensory and messy play resources, all of which can be set up at home. Enjoy watching through the video links below.

Attention Autism
Access the link below to watch a video from Christos Papagrigoriou, Senior Teacher at JFK and an Attention Autism Advanced Practitioner. In the video Christos is demonstrating a Spring themed Stage 1 and Stage 2 of the programme. In this video, you can explore vocabulary and items that are linked to Spring and watch something fascinating with pupils at home. The adult's role while watching with the pupils is to show excitement and not prompt the pupil with questions or requests. You can find more on the strategies for Attention Autism on YouTube (Gina Davies Autism Centre) if you wish to practise at home.
